Located at the Doca de Santo Amaro, with the Tagus defining the frontal landscape, the building is a warehouse of approximately 350 square metres distributed across two floors, formerly a restaurant. Its metal structure, inverted double-pitched roof and generous glazed facades distinguish it from the neighbouring warehouses and establish its character. The intervention converts this space into a shared workspace while preserving its original identity and adapting it to new functional requirements, with a strong focus on cost and programme efficiency.
The decision to preserve the exterior envelope is the first and most important design move. The building's privileged location, excellent solar orientation and the relationship with the water define the identity of the workspace before anyone steps inside. The strategy for the renovation focuses on a careful recovery of the existing elements, avoiding unnecessary interventions on the facade.
Localizado na Doca de Santo Amaro, com o Tejo a desenhar a paisagem frontal, o edifício é um armazém de cerca de 350 metros quadrados distribuídos por dois pisos, outrora um estabelecimento de restauração. A sua estrutura metálica, cobertura de duas águas invertida e generosos vãos envidraçados distinguem-no dos armazéns vizinhos e estabelecem o seu carácter. A intervenção converte este espaço num centro de trabalho partilhado preservando a sua identidade original e adaptando-o às novas necessidades funcionais, com uma forte preocupação pelo controlo de custos e de prazos.
A decisão de preservar o envelope exterior é o primeiro e mais importante gesto de projecto. A localização privilegiada do edifício, a excelente orientação solar e a relação com a água definem a identidade do espaço de trabalho antes de qualquer entrada. A estratégia de remodelação passa por uma recuperação cuidada dos elementos existentes, evitando intervenções desnecessárias na fachada.
